Don’t make a permanent decision based on temporary feelings
Ladies, have you ever fallen in love with someone so much that you become so emotionally attached to the person and you cannot imagine your life without that person even though you know deep within he isn’t the right one for you but you love him anyway?
I feel you sis! See, just before I met my wonderful husband, I was “in love” with this guy, although we were not officially dating but we were best friends. There was almost no conversation I had with those close to me that I won’t mention his name. Our mutual friends know we were so close and to be honest I really liked him because we just understood each other in an amazing way. We could tell what the other person was thinking even through phone conversations, we would complete each other’s sentences… it was a lovely friendship.
I knew deep in my heart that he wasn’t right for me as our friendship got deeper and the feelings grew even more. We shared different spiritual beliefs – I was a Christian and he was not! I started to rationalize saying to myself, “he is a good guy”, “he has most of the qualities I want in a guy”, “God must have brought him my way for a purpose”, “some christian guys are not even this good morally”… The things we say to anyone who cares to listen, just to justify why we do the wrongs we do! God help us!!! Anyway, to cut my long story short, my parents who were very close to me and had an idea where the friendship was headed asked me to end the friendship! How could I break up with a guy that cares so much for me and I care also about him just because we don’t share the same beliefs? It didn’t go down well with me, I was so upset even though I knew what God’s word says “Be not unequally yoked together with an unbeliever”.
After much struggle, I braced myself up to call him one night and explained to him we could no longer continue to be in this “relationship”, one of the most difficult things I’ve done. I cried so much that night during our conversation, he wept too! The days after were so difficult to deal with without him to gist with, I was so tempted to call, sometimes I did, sometimes I texted just to check how he was doing as it was weird living without my best friend. Finally, one day I decided to delete his number and all the messages we had exchanged because they made me miss him even more as they brought back good memories which were sources of temptation; this was the beginning of my healing. Not too long after, God brought my husband along my way who is several times better than my lost best friend.
Dear sister, are you also in love with a guy whom you know deep in your heart both of you are not compatible in spiritual beliefs, in values, in purpose, expectations don’t align, may be you are even being abused; yet, you are scared to break up because of how much you have invested into the relationship, you are scared of being alone, you are scared of what people would say, you are scared of hurting yourself and hurting him, what are you scared of?
If your relationship with that guy contradicts God’s word and His will for your life, then it is not His will for you! End the relationship! Oh it would hurt you definitely but you would be happy you did in the end because God will give you a better person, I am a living testimony to that. Don’t enjoy a temporary romance for a life time of suffering, marriage is no joke. Don’t make a permanent decision based on feelings and butterflies in your tummy. Think again dear, going into such a marriage with a faulty foundation will not stand the test of time. Don’t gamble with your life, obeying God truly pays and gives you the joy and peace in marriage that you desire.
Have you been in a wrong relationship before? How did you deal with it? Please leave a comment to encourage someone. God bless you.
